Expert Tips That I Recommend

  • Whenever I make this sauce, I always use freshly grated horseradish roots. This gives the sauce a spicy edge and a more intense flavor.
  • To brighten up the flavors, I also like to add a small amount of lemon juice. This balances the creaminess of the mayonnaise and adds a nice tang to the sauce.
  • If you prefer a light sauce, try adding a spoonful of sour cream. This will lighten up the sauce while maintaining its flavor.
  • I also add a small amount of Dijon mustard to add a slight depth to the sauce without overpowering the horseradish.
  • I incorporate a small amount of smoked paprika or liquid smoke for a subtle smokiness. It pairs wonderfully with roasted chicken or beef, adding a barbecue flavor to the sauce.

FAQs About Arby’s Horsey Sauce

Nutritional Information Per Serving

Arby’s Horsey Sauce is not so healthy to consume on a daily basis as it is mayonnaise-based, contributing to a high fat and calorie content. Although horseradish is rich in antioxidants and improves digestion, it is more indulgent than healthy food. So, enjoying it in moderation is recommended.

Recipe Variations For Different Diets

  • Vegan: To make this sauce vegan-friendly, I simply swap regular mayonnaise with vegan mayonnaise.
  • Paleo: For a paleo version, I use honey instead of sugar and make homemade mayonnaise by combining one large egg, one tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 cup of avocado oil, ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard and ½ teaspoon salt.
  • Low-Calorie: I used Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise and stevia or monk fruit sweetener in place of sugar, and thus, my low-calorie Arby’s Horsey Sauce was ready.

Storing This Recipe

  • Refrigerator: To store my leftover sauce, I transfer it to an airtight container or jar to prevent any foul odours. Then, I store it in the refrigerator at 40°F. This way, it stays good for up to a week.
  • Freezer: I generally don’t recommend freezing the sauce because its texture can become watery upon thawing. But if you want to preserve it for a longer period of time, then make sure that you transfer your sauce to a freezer-safe container and preserve it for up to 3 months. Make sure to thaw it slowly and stir well so that it recombines and regains the original texture.

What To Serve With This Sauce

This sauce is so versatile that it pairs brilliantly with a number of dishes. First and foremost is the Roasted Beef Sandwich, which is a classic pairing to bring out the signature flavour of Arby’s. Second, I love pairing it with Chicken Sandwiches and Beef Sliders to add a flavourful zing and extra flavour to the sauce.

I also like to have it with spicy Veggie Burgers and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, which best complement the sauce’s spicy kick. You can also try it with Stuffed Mushrooms, Veggie Wraps, Chicken Tenders, and Pulled Pork.
