Equipment

  • Bowl
  • Tart Pan
  • Saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Spoon
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Parchment Paper
  • Blender
  • Knife
  • Sieve
  • Oven

Ingredients

Sweet Pastry Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 cup Granulated White Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 Large Egg (at room temperature)

Apricot Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup Apricot Preserves
  • 1 tablespoon Water or Grand Marnier (or Cognac, Calvados, or Rum)

Apple Filling:

  • 1 1/4 cups Applesauce (lightly sweetened)
  • 1 1/2 pounds Apples (firm-textured)
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 2-4 tablespoons Granulated white sugar (depending on the sweetness of your apples)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  • Blend butter and sugar in a mixer until the mixture is fluffy and soft. Gradually, blend in the egg. Then, add flour and salt to the mixture until a pastry dough is formed. Wrap this dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for an hour until it is firm.
  • Now, roll the pastry and place it in a tart pan. Press this pastry slightly at the bottom and sides of the tart pan. Prick the bottom of the pastry in the pan with a fork. Refrigerate it for almost 20 minutes after removing the excess pastry from the pan.
  • Lay parchment paper over this crust and add rice or beans to it. Evenly spread it over the pie crust. Bake it in the preheated oven (400 F) for about 20 minutes. Remove the rice and parchment paper. Now, reduce the temperature to 350 F, and bake the pie crust further for 5 minutes until the crust is golden brown and dry.
  • Warm the apricot preserves in a saucepan until it boils. Then, strain it to discard the lumps (if any). Add water or the Grand Marnier to it and brush this apricot glaze over the pie crust.
  • Melt the unsalted butter over medium heat in a large skillet and add about 4 tablespoons of sugar to it. Toss in the apple slices, sauce, and ground cinnamon. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes until the apples are soft. Remove from the heat and let it cool.
  • Spread the apple sauce in the pie tart and arrange the apples in it in the form of concentric circles. Brush a tablespoon of butter over the apples and bake the tart for about 25 to 30 minutes until the apples are brown and soft.
  • Sprinkle some powdered sugar and cover the edges with foil. Place it under a preheated broiler until the tart edges are crispy and brown. After it cool completely, brush it with warm apricot glaze. Serve it with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
