Crockpot rump roast has the delightful essence of Grandma's kitchen. You will love this roast cooked for 8 hours in a crockpot along with gravy and veggies served on your family dinner table.
½cupDry Red Wine (optional but highly recommended)
2tablespoonsTomato Paste
¾teaspoonSalt
2Bay Leaves
For the Dry Rub
2tablespoonsSweet Paprika
1teaspoonGarlic Powder
1 ½teaspoonsSalt
¾teaspoonFreshly Ground Black Pepper
¼teaspoonRosemary
¼teaspoonThyme
¼teaspoonOregano
¼teaspoonBasil
¼teaspoonParsley
For Gravy Slurry
5tablespoonsAll-Purpose Flour (mixed into a slurry)
½cupBeef Broth
Instructions
Mix all the ingredients for dry rub in a plate and rub this mixture on all sides of the roast. Heat oil in a heavy pot on high flame and liberally brown the roast on all sides.
Place the roast in a slow cooker. Add broth to the pot, return to boil, and whisk to loosen up the brown bits. Add wine, tomato paste, and salt. Whisk to combine.
Place onion, garlic, carrots, garlic, celery, and bay leaves around the roast in the slow cooker. Lay the strips of bacon on the roast and alongside the roast. Pour the beef broth and tomato paste mixture over everything.
Cook it on low setting for about 8-9 hours. Cooking the beef on a low setting as it is best for a flavorful tender beef.
Pour the liquid from the crockpot into a medium stockpot leaving the roast and vegetables in the crockpot.
Boil and whisk the gravy slurry and continue whisking until the gravy is thickened. Season it with salt and pepper.
Place the pot roast on a serving platter and spoon the vegetables around it. Discard the bay leaves and bacon. Pour little gravy on it and serve with gravy on the side along with potatoes and your choice of sides.

Don't be afraid to brown the roast. All those burnt crispy bits add flavor and enhance the taste.

Roast rump can also be cooked without searing and can be directly placed in the crockpot.
If you don't have the ingredients for dry-rub, use an envelope of Italian dry seasoning and other ingredients for your choice of flavor.
Make sure the roast turns out fork-tender after cooking. If not, cook it for some more time.
