Equipment

  • Large Saucepan
  • Knife
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Canning Jars

Ingredients

  • 2 large Tart Apples (cooked)
  • ½ cup Onion (chopped)
  • ¼ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Orange Peel (grated)
  • ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Grated Fresh Ginger
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar

Instructions

  • Combine the diced apples, chopped onion, orange peel, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, grated ginger, cinnamon, and salt in a large saucepan.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, occasionally stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the chutney simmer uncovered for about half an hour until the apples are soft.
  • The mixture has thickened to your desired consistency, occasionally stirring to prevent sticking.
  • Taste the chutney and adjust the seasoning to your liking, adding more sugar, vinegar, or spices if desired.
  • Once the chutney has reached your desired consistency and flavor, please remove it from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.
  • Transfer the cooled chutney to clean, sterilized jars if you plan to store it for later use. Seal the jars with lids and store them in the refrigerator.
  • Serve the apple chutney as a condiment or relish it with cheese, roasted meats, sandwiches, or other dishes. Enjoy!
