Instructions

Cake

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease three 9-inch cake pans; line them with parchment paper.
  • Whisk the cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together. Set aside.
  • Using a hand-held or stand mixer fitted with a paddle, beat the butter and sugar together for about 3 minutes on high speed until smooth and creamy.
  • Beat in the 3 eggs, 2 egg whites, and vanilla extract on high speed until combined for about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides and up the bottom of the bowl as needed.
  •  Put the mixer on low speed and add the dry ingredients just until combined.
  • With the mixer still running on low, pour in the buttermilk and mix just until combined. The batter will be slightly thick.
  • Pour the batter evenly into three cake pans and bake for around 23-26 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Allow cakes to cool completely in the pans before frosting and assembling.

 Buttercream Frosting

  • Using a hand-held mixer or stand mixer, beat the butter on medium speed in a large bowl until creamy. Add confectioners’ sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt with the mixer running on low. Increase to high speed and beat for 2 minutes.
  • Add more confectioners’ sugar if the frosting is too thin, more milk if the frosting is too thick, or an extra pinch of salt if the frosting is too sweet.

Assemble The Cake

  • Take a large serrated knife, and slice a thin layer off the tops of the cakes to create a flat surface.
  • Place 1 cake layer on a serving plate and evenly cover the top with about 1 and 1/2 cups of frosting using a spatula. Now place the 2nd cake layer on top and evenly cover the top with about 1 and 1/2 cups of frosting. Top this layer with the third cake layer and spread the remaining frosting all over the top and sides.
  • Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before decorating.

Decorate The Cake

  • Roll the fondant dough to ½ inch thickness.
  • With the help of a ghostbuster's cookie cutter, cut out the number of ghostbusters toppers you wish to add to the cake.
  • Now take red, black, and yellow food colors and paint the fondant ghostbusters to make them colorful.
  • You paint the ring of the ghostbusters with red food colors and carve its facial features using black color.
