What Ingredients Will You Need To Make Pizza Sauce?

  • Fresh Tomatoes – I have used plum tomatoes as they are slightly firmer than regular tomatoes and often have less liquid content with a tangy flavor that adds an interesting twist to the sauce.
  • Olive Oil – Sauté garlic in olive oil as it will disperse the flavor into the sauce, bringing out a slightly nutty and robust flavor.
  • Water – If the puree starts to stick to the pan, add water.
  • Garlic – Cook minced garlic until golden brown to add a nice toasted flavor.
  • Dry Oregano – Oregano will add a strongly aromatic, camphoraceous aroma, and a slightly bitter and pungent flavor minty notes to the sauce.
  • Basil – Basil will add a fresh flavor, with a finish of black pepper and subtle anise and mint notes.
  • Salt – The salt will not only add flavor but also help thicken the sauce.
  • Pepper – Black pepper is added to give the sauce a kick of lightly spicy and sweet taste.

Steps To Make Pizza Sauce

1. Puree The Tomatoes

Take a blender jar and add chopped tomatoes. You don’t need to blanch them. Blend it until you achieve the consistency of the puree as per requirement.

If you’re using canned tomatoes, then two cups of canned and crushed tomatoes are required.

Now, add 1/4th cup of olive oil to the pan and throw in two tablespoon of minced garlic. Sauté on low flame until the garlic turns golden.

2. Cooking Is Necessary

Now, add prepared puree to the pan and stir well. Cook well for about 4 to 5 minutes on low to medium heat.

Add salt to taste and mix well. It’s time to put the lid on and let the puree simmer for about 25 minutes on low flame.

Do check-in between. If the puree starts to stick to the pan, add 1/4th cup of water and continue to heat on low flame.

You may take off the lid once the sauce has thickened and the tomatoes are cooked well (you will know if you see oil flecks on top or on the sides).

3. Season The Sauce

To this, add 1/4th cup of chopped basil. This adds a great flavor. Sprinkle two tablespoons of oregano and black pepper to taste.

Mix well and cook for another minute. Let the sauce cool down at room temperate and then it’s ready to top up your pizza base.
