Paula Deen Salmon Patties Recipe

C’mon, friends, get ready for a blast from the past – a past as crunchy and crispy as patties. But there’s a seafood twist to this. It’s Paula Deen’s Salmon Patties, which bring a classic southern touch to this dish.

How To Make Paula Deen Salmon Patties At Homee

This dish is made with fresh salmon. When cooked, it has a soft, juicy center with a crispy, crunchy exterior.

The salmon provides a satisfying hint of the sea, while eggs help bind the ingredients, giving it a smooth texture. Moreover, the breadcrumbs provide just the right amount of crunch, perfectly complementing the soft interior.

But what I love most about this recipe is how these patties hold their shape, making for a visually appealing dish. But that’s not all! I also love how these patties pair amazingly well with a variety of sauces.

That’s why I always say this dish is the perfect example of how simple ingredients can be combined thoughtfully to create a meal that’s both satisfying and special. Come, and let’s teach you how to make this delectable recipe.

Equipments Required

  • Mixing Bowl: Use a large mixing bowl to combine all the ingredients.
  • Frying Pan Or A Skillet: I recommend using a frying pan where your patties would get nice and crispy.
  • Spatula: A spatula will help you flip those patties easily. I prefer using a rubber spatula for this purpose.
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons: I suggest keeping some handy to measure the right amounts of ingredients.
  • Paper Towel: After the salmon patties are cooked, you will need a plate lined with paper towels to soak up the excess oil.

Expert Tips That I Recommend

  • I learned this the hard way. But if you let your salmon mixture sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, it will hold its shape well, making it easy to cook.
  • To make my patties extra crispy, I like to use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
  • I have also experimented with the filling in this patty by adding cheese to it, and let me tell you, that gooey center was just irresistible.
  • I suggest ensuring all ingredients, especially the salmon and eggs, are at room temperature before mixing. This can help ensure the patties are perfectly bound and consistent.
  • I reheat the frying pan to the right temperature to prevent sticking before adding the patties.
  • I also fry the patties in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan, which can lead to uneven cooking and sogginess.

Recipe Variations For Different Diets

  • Gluten-Free: I use gluten-free breadcrumbs, such as Schar Gluten-Free breadcrumbs or Kinnikinnick Gluten-Free breadcrumbs. You can also use gluten-free crackers for coating.
  • Low-fat: I substitute the vegetable oil with a small amount of olive oil or a non-stick cooking spray. I also use whole-grain breadcrumbs or reduced-fat ones. If they are unavailable, you can also use oat flour or finely ground almonds for a lower-fat version.
  • Keto-Friendly: I give my salmon patties a keto-friendly twist by replacing the breadcrumbs with keto-bread crumbs or almond flour. I choose healthy fats like olive or avocado oil and add chives and green onions to follow keto-friendly guidelines.

Storing And Reheating This Recipe

Storing

  • Refrigerator: Salmon Patties, cooked or uncooked, are best stored in the refrigerator. But before storing them in the refrigerator, I let them cool down. Then, I transferred them into an airtight container to prevent them from drying out. Then I put them in the refrigerator, where they stay safe for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer: For long-term use, I prefer freezing salmon patties. I let my cooked parties come to room temperature. Then, I lay them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate them for up to 3 hours.
  • After they are properly refrigerated, I transfer them into a freezer-safe bag or container, where they are preserved for up to 3 months. You can follow the same procedure for uncooked salmon patties as well.

Reheating

  • Oven: First, preheat your oven to 350°F. Then, place the patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Arrange your parties in a single layer so that the heat is evenly distributed. Finally, reheat them for 15 to 20 minutes, until they are hot, golden, and crisp.
  • Skillet: Simply heat a skillet and brush it with oil. Once it is hot, I place my patties in the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd it. Then I heat them on both sides for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Air Fryer: I also sometimes air-fry my patties. For this, I first preheat the air fryer at 350°F. Then, I arrange my patties in the air fryer basket in a single layer and let them cook for 8 to 10 minutes, until they are evenly cooked.

What To Serve With This Recipe

I like to serve my Salmon Patties with a variety of sides to create a well-rounded meal. If I’m in the mood for something more filling, I opt for a Creamy Mashed Potato or a side of Quinoa Salad

A fresh, zesty Coleslaw is another great choice that offers a crunchy contrast. A classic Tartar Sauce or Aioli is always a hit, bringing out the rich, juicy flavor of the salmon. I also like to serve these patties with Cheese Sandwiches. This makes my Salmon Patties even more delicious and savory.
