McDonald’s Pancakes Recipe Ingredients & Substitutions

McDonald's Pancakes Ingredients

I love making this recipe as it makes use of simple pantry staples. So, take a look at what you will need.

  • ½ Cup All-Purpose Flour – McDonald’s pancakes are prepared with all-purpose flour to make them soft and fluffy. However, you can also use wheat or oat flour in its place.
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder – To help raise the batter, a teaspoon of baking powder is added. It will help in making soft and fluffy pancakes.
  • ½ Cup Milk – Milk will help you prepare a smooth batter. You can use any milk for this purpose.
  • 2 Whole Eggs – Eggs will help bind the batter.
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar – To add sweetness to the batter, you will need a tablespoon of sugar. Caster sugar works best for this recipe, but you can also use granulated or powdered sugar. If you prefer natural sweeteners, you can use honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt – A pinch of salt added to the batter helps enhance the flavors of the pancakes.
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil – A neutral-tasting oil such as canola or olive will help you cook the pancakes.
  • 1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup – To enjoy the pancakes just like McDonald’s serves, you will need a teaspoon of maple syrup on the top to drizzle.
  • 1 Cube Butter – To make the flavors rich, you will need a cube of butter for garnishing.

Some Tips & Tricks To Make This Recipe Better

McDonald's Pancakes Copycat Recipe

I’m sharing all the tips and tricks that have helped me make the best copycat McDonald’s pancake.

  1. Sift the flour before mixing the other ingredients. This will make your pancakes light and fluffy and prevent the formation of lumps.
  2. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the wet ingredients in to mix. This will ensure that the ingredients combine properly and easily.
  3. Whisk the batter only to combine the ingredients, as overmixing will result in tough pancakes.
  4. Before pouring the pancake batter into the pan, ensure the griddle is heated properly. Otherwise, it will cook poorly and turn out flat and hard.
  5. While cooking the pancakes, reduce the heat to medium-low so they cook slowly and properly.
  6. Flip the pancakes only when bubbles appear on the surface, and lift the edge of the pancake to check if the underneath surface has turned golden after 2-4 minutes.
  7. Avoid pressing down the pancakes with a spatula as they cook. Doing so will squish out the air bubbles, resulting in flat and tough pancakes.
  8. To make similar-sized pancakes, use a cook scoop or ladle to pour the batter onto the pan.

McDonald’s Pancakes Recipe Variations

The ingredients used to prepare McDonald’s pancakes are not suitable for all diets. Therefore, I’m sharing some recipe variations to help you out if you follow a special diet.

  • Vegan or Dairy-Free Pancakes – If you follow a vegan diet, you can substitute regular milk with almond, soy, oat, or coconut milk. You can also replace eggs with mashed bananas. Use about 1/4 cup of mashed banana per egg.
  • Sugar-Free Pancakes – If you have diabetes, you can replace regular sugar with stevia, sucralose, or aspartame.
  • Gluten-Free Pancakes – You can also make this recipe gluten-free by using gluten-free flour.

How To Store & Reheat McDonald’s Pancakes Recipe

Have leftovers? Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Here are the ways that have helped me store these pancakes properly.

Storing Pancakes

  • Refrigerator – You can easily store pancakes in the refrigerator by allowing them to cool down and placing them in an airtight container. However, you must place butter paper between pancakes before stacking them to prevent them from breaking later. Your pancakes will remain fresh for a week in the refrigerator.
  • Freezer – You can also freeze pancakes the same way for up to 2 months. However, make sure that you place them in an airtight container.

Reheating Pancakes

  • Oven – The best way to reheat pancakes is in the oven. Preheat the oven to 350˚F and lay a single layer of pancakes on a baking pan. Then, cover the pancakes with foil and place them in the oven for about four minutes. The foil will keep them from drying out.
  • Microwave – You can also reheat the pancakes in the microwave on medium-high heat for about a minute. Place them in a microwave-safe dish and cover them with a lid.

Serving Suggestions With McDonald’s Pancakes Recipe

The best part about making this recipe is that it can be enjoyed in many ways. Therefore, when I wish to eat them as a sweet indulgence, I pair them with maple syrup, whipped cream, fruits, chocolate sauce, fruit compote, and caramel sauce.

However, I pair them with bacon, eggs, and sausages for a savory twist. Try out some of these options; I’m sure you will love them too!
