Expert Tips That I Recommend
- I avoid adding too many seasonings and sauces to Jamie Oliver Fried Rice because I like to allow the natural flavours and aromatics to develop. However, you can experiment with oyster sauce to make it more flavorful.
- When I cook Jamie Oliver’s Fried Rice, I like to do it at high heat. High heat allows even cooking and creates that beautiful, crispy texture, which is what fried rice should taste like.
- If this is your first time cooking prawns, do not overcook them. Overcooking them will make them chewy, which will be unappetizing. So, cook them well until they turn slightly orangish in colour and curl into a “C” shape.
- Add a limited quantity of rice while cooking because an overcrowded pan inhibits frying, affecting the dish’s overall texture.
- Since this is a fried rice recipe, you won’t be shy about adding oil to the pan. This one-pan recipe calls for frying all the ingredients in the same pan. So add a generous amount of oil, or else your ingredients can burn, have no flavour, and, worst of all, remain uncooked.
- If you do not have leftover rice and are using fresh rice, spread it out and let it cool. You can also let it sit in the refrigerator for half an hour so that all the moisture from the rice has dried off.
- Add meat, ham or eggs to the fried rice if you enjoy meat.

Recipe Variations For Different Diets
- Gluten-Free Diet: Although this recipe is gluten-free, I like to double-check the soy sauce I am using since some companies use gluten-containing soy sauce.
Storing & Reheating This Recipe
Storing
- Countertop: After my Jamie Oliver Fried Rice is ready, I do not like leaving it on the countertop for over half an hour. Fried rice tastes best when it is hot, and the chances of contamination increase beyond this.
- Refrigeration: I like to refrigerate my leftover Jamie Oliver Fried Rice for 3-4 days. But before doing that, I ensure that it is packed in an airtight container to prevent the rice from coming in contact with air.
- Freezing: To store Jamie Oliver Fried Rice beyond 3-4 days, I like to freeze it. I transfer the leftovers to a freezer-friendly bag, which keeps them fresh for about a month.
Reheating
- Skillet: Reheating Jamie Oliver’s Fried Rice in the skillet is the easiest. I add oil or butter to the skillet and let it heat up at medium heat. Then, I stir-fry the leftover rice until it is warm enough.
- Microwave: You can use a microwave to reheat smaller portions of Jamie Oliver’s Fried Rice. Transfer the leftovers to a microwave-friendly dish, cover it with foil, and heat it at medium heat for 20-30 seconds. Give it a nice stir, and follow it up with 10-second increments if needed to warm it up even more.
- Oven: If you have made Jamie Oliver Fried Rice for a crowd, you can reheat it in one go by using an oven. Put the leftovers in a baking dish and cover it with aluminium foil. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and bake the dish for 15-20 minutes. Stir it in between, and add a dash of water if necessary to prevent it from drying out.
What To Serve With This Recipe
After my Jamie Oliver Fried Rice is ready, I like to serve it with Chipotle Chicken on the side. You can also have it with Chicken Thighs or hot, Spicy Wings. If you are a fan of Chinese cuisine, then you can also enjoy it with dumplings or a spring roll.
To complement it with something liquidy, you can also have it with a nourishing Soup. To keep things simple but add a little bit more protein, you can also have it with store-fried tempeh or tofu.
