Expert Tips That I Recommend

  • Ensure your oil is at the right temperature before frying your funnel cakes.

  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients bit by bit to mix the batter easily and avoid making a mess.
  • Hold the funnel or piping bag slightly higher than usual when dispensing the batter.
  • Dust the funnel cake with sugar after it has cooled down to avoid sogginess.

Recipe Variations For Different Diets

  • Gluten-Free Diet: Those on a gluten-free diet can enjoy funnel cake without milk pretty quickly by switching the all-purpose flour in this recipe with gluten-free flour.
  • Vegan And Vegetarian Diet: If you are a vegan, you can substitute the egg with some silken tofu; for vegetarians, Greek yogurt will work perfectly fine in place of eggs. Remember, one egg weighs 50 grams or 1.764 ounces.
  • Low-Calorie Diet: For those on a low-calorie diet or specifically trying to lose weight, it would be best to enjoy this recipe in its original form, in as much moderation as possible. However, if you want a healthier approach to the recipe, you can switch the sugar with cane sugar or stevia and try air-frying the funnel cake instead of deep-frying.

What To Serve With This Recipe

Funnel cake without milk is one of those recipes that tastes amazing just as it is, even with a generous dusting of powdered sugar. However, the cake’s crunchy and soft texture goes well with many other things, like honey or maple syrup.

For better and fancier flavors, you can choose toppings like chocolate sauce or even a hazelnut Nutella spread, along with chopped hazelnuts. Caramel Sauce and toffee bits are also a good option. Lastly, for a more summery and breezy flavor, choose toppings like a Mixed Berry Coulis or a Raspberry Compote for an extra tart flavor.
