I will also tell you the contact information, franchise details, and the nutritional information. But before knowing all this, let’s check out some history about Cracker Barrel.

History of Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel (also known as Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc.) is an American chain of combined restaurant and gift stores that Dan Evins founded in 1969. The reason why Dan Evins started Cracker Barrel is to improve his gasoline sales.
The first store of Cracker Barrel was opened in Lebanon, Tennessee and he tried to design the first store as Southern as possible that used to serve only Southern cuisines like biscuits, country ham, and grits. This led to the success of Cracker Barrel between more and more highway travelers.

This led Evins to open more stores near gas stations. But during the gas shortages in the early 1970s, the brand started to build restaurants without gas stations; focusing on just restaurant and gift sales revenue. Evins wants to expand its brands across the U.S. in no time, so he decided to take the company public in 1981 to raise funds for expansion. By the end of 1992, the company has been valued at over a billion dollars.

One of the biggest reasons behind the success of Cracker Barrel is that the brand never failed to evolve its menu while expanding into new territories with time. But with that, Cracker Barrel never forgot its roots: the classic southern vibe and food in its restaurants.

The number of stores grew to 420 by the year 2000. This massive expansion led to more modern technologies in the restaurants to attract more local crowds. 2006 was when Cracker Barrel decided to step up in its marketing game using new designs in billboard advertisements. Till now, the company has more than 660 stores in 45 states of America.

What People Say About Cracker Barrel? | My Honest Review

Video by Delish

Cracker Barrel is one of the most famous restaurants in the United States running since 1969. So that’s why I decided to visit a Cracker Barrel store in Illinois. At first glance, I really liked the Southern vibe of their store.

The first thing that attracted me to a Cracker Barrel is the wooden rocking chair and the stone fireplace at the front of the store.

It made me feel like I am in for an authentic Southern experience. The stores also had some really cool and vintage stuff related to the history of America. So I looked at their menu and the first thing that came to my notice was that Cracker Barrel serves breakfast all day and that to me is really awesome.

I decided to order a Grandma’s Holiday Sampler with two buttermilk pancakes and two eggs served with a thick slice of bacon, smoked sausage, and country ham, accompanied by hash brown casserole and pure maple syrup. Sounds delicious, right!

With this, I had their freshly brewed sweet iced tea. One thing that I’ve observed there is that their staff was not that friendly. I don’t mean to say that they were rude to me, but they were not super friendly.

So I got my order after waiting for long 20 minutes but their food was nice. The pancakes were perfectly cooked and everything else was fine except the eggs. To be honest, two eggs were looking like one and it was not that warm as compared to other food. On the contrary, their sweet iced tea was refreshing but not very healthy as I realized that it has 34 g of sugar in it. If you keep that aside, you should try it.

My overall experience of Cracker Barrel was fine. Their food was good, but I didn’t have the experience to convince me to visit Cracker Barrel again in the future. It is a great spot for a one-time visit but visiting there multiple times totally depends on the experience you got there.
