What Ingredients Will You Need To Make Chocolate Truffle Cake? 

For The Cake : 

  • All-Purpose Flour – To get enough yield to serve 16 people, you will need two ⅔ cups of all-purpose flour. You can use cake flour, too, if you like, but don’t use bread flour as it has a very high gluten content. 
  • Sugar – It isn’t a cake without sugar! This recipe will need two cups of white, granulated, or caster sugar. 
  • Baking Soda – For this recipe, the leavening agent that we will be using is one teaspoon of baking soda. 
  • Milk – Milk will help us form the chocolate base for this cake; hence, you will need 2 ½ cups of milk other than skimmed milk. 
  • Chocolate – The ingredient that gives this cake its rich flavor is chocolate. So, you will need 8 ounces of chopped, semisweet chocolate. 
  • Eggs – Eggs will help bring the batter together and give the cake structure, so you will need three large eggs for this recipe. 
  • Butter – Fat is an important ingredient in most cakes, and for this recipe, the fat of choice is one cup of unsalted butter. Make sure the butter is cold and cut into cubes.

Steps To Make Chocolate Truffle Cake

1. Pre Preparations

The first step while making this chocolate cake is to get all your pre-preparations done. Here, you will need chocolate for all three parts of the cake. If you use a chocolate bar, chop them up and keep the required amount aside for each recipe. 

Then, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt for the cake in a large bowl and keep it aside. Lastly, grease the baking pans with melted, unsalted butter and dust them with flour, just enough to cover all the sides. Now that your pre-preparation is done, we can begin making the cake. 

2. Prepare The Batter And Bake The Cake

Firstly, preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, to start preparing the batter for the cake, in a saucepan, take the milk, butter, and chocolate together and heat them over a low flame just until everything is melted. Once done, take it off the heat and let it cool for 10 minutes. 

In the meantime, in the stand mixer bowl, add the eggs and vanilla extract until they are light and fluffy. Then, slowly add the melted chocolate mixture until everything is well combined. 

Lastly, add in the sifted dry ingredients, bit by bit, at a low speed, and mix till it forms a smooth batter. Once the batter is ready, transfer it to the greased baking pans and place them on a baking tray. Bake them in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, then check if they are done with a skewer inserted in the middle. 

If the skewer comes out clean, your cakes are ready, or else, let them bake for another 5 minutes. Then, transfer the cake pans onto a cooling rack and cool them completely before taking them out of the pans. 

3. Prepare The Filling And The Ganache

While your cakes are baking in the oven, you can begin preparing the filling for the cake. For that, melt the butter and chopped chocolate in a small saucepan. Once they have properly melted, add sugar and whipping cream to the confectioners and whisk until smooth. Once done, transfer the filling to a bowl and let it cool. 

For the ganache, place the chopped chocolate in a bowl. Add the whipping cream to a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Make sure that you take the cream off the heat as soon as it begins to boil; otherwise, it will get too hot and will curdle the ganache. Once the cream is sufficiently hot, take it off the heat and add it to the chopped chocolate. Mix it all and let the ganache cool for 15 minutes or so until it reaches a thick consistency.

For The Cake

For The Cake :

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and dust all three baking pans and keep them aside. Chop the chocolate. Sift the flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda into a large bowl.
  • Mix the chopped chocolate, milk, and butter in a saucepan and let them melt over low heat. Once melted, take them off the heat and let them cool down for 10 minutes.
  • In the stand mixer bowl, add the eggs and vanilla and whip them until they are light and fluffy.
  • Then, add the chocolate, milk, and butter mix once it has cooled down.
  • After everything is combined, add in the sifted dry ingredients and mix until it forms a smooth batter.
  • Transfer the batter to the greased baking pans and place them on a baking tray. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes, until you insert a skewer and it comes out clean.
  • Place the baking pans on a cooling rack and let them cool completely before taking the cakes out of the pan.

For The Filling :

  • Chop the chocolate, add it to a saucepan and the butter, and melt them over low heat.
  • Once they have melted, add in the confectioners sugar and whipping cream and mix until everything is combined.
  • Transfer the filling to a bowl and let it cool down.

For The Ganache :

  • Chop the chocolate and add it all to a large bowl.
  • Heat the whipping cream in a saucepan over medium flame until it begins to boil.
  • Once it starts boiling, add it to the chopped chocolate and mix it all with a whisk until smooth and glossy. Let the ganache cool down until it reaches a thick and spreadable consistency.

Assembly :

  • Once all the elements are ready and have cooled down, you can begin assembling the cake.
  • For that, place one of the layers of the cake on a serving plate and top it with a generous amount of filling.
