To make Chipotle black beans at home, sauté the veggies until softened. Add the black beans and spices. Cook and stir occasionally. Add the water and cook until the water has evaporated. Serve immediately.

To make the Chipotle black beans recipe heartier, use pinto beans instead of black beans. Pinto beans have a similar texture to black beans but are slightly sweeter.

Recipe Variations For Different Diets

  • Low Sodium: The recipe is high in sodium, which can be concerning. That is why I always make sure to use low-sodium canned beans. Also, I make sure to add less salt in the recipe.
  • Low Fat: Instead of using oil, I add a splash of vegetable broth to cook the onions. This is a small step yet quite effective.

Storing This Recipe

  • Refrigeration: I store the cooked beans in an airtight container and then transfer them to the refrigerator. This way, I can store the beans for 3-4 days.
  • Freezing: If I want to store the beans for a longer time, I use a freezer-safe, air-tight container and keep it in the freezer.

What To Serve With This Recipe

I love pairing Chipotle Black Beans with Grilled Chicken because it makes a power-packed meal. Pair it with Wild Rice Pilaf or Garlic Fried Rice for a fulfilling meal. I also love making tacos and adding these cooked beans. You can make Burritos or Fajitas, and this dish would be a perfect addition.
